Ayah 50

Surah Al-Anfaal

And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.﴿50﴾

Translation

And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.

Simplified Tafsir

ولو تعاين -أيها الرسول- حال قبض الملائكة أرواح الكفار وانتزاعها، وهم يضربون وجوههم في حال إقبالهم، ويضربون ظهورهم في حال فرارهم، ويقولون لهم: ذوقوا العذاب المحرق، لرأيت أمرًا عظيمًا، وهذا السياق وإن كان سببه وقعة "بدر"، ولكنه عام في حق كلِّ كافر.
