Surah Al-A'raaf
And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah].﴿94﴾
Translation
And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah].
Simplified Tafsir
وما أرسلنا في قرية من نبي يدعوهم إلى عبادة الله، وينهاهم عمَّا هم فيه من الشرك، فكذَّبه قومه، إلا ابتليناهم بالبأساء والضراء، فأصبناهم في أبدانهم بالأمراض والأسقام، وفي أموالهم بالفقر والحاجة؛ رجاء أن يستكينوا، وينيبوا إلى الله، ويرجعوا إلى الحق.
