Surah At-Tawba
Nor [is there blame] upon those who, when they came to you that you might give them mounts, you said, "I can find nothing for you to ride upon." They turned back while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find something to spend [for the cause of Allah].﴿92﴾
Translation
Nor [is there blame] upon those who, when they came to you that you might give them mounts, you said, "I can find nothing for you to ride upon." They turned back while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find something to spend [for the cause of Allah].
Simplified Tafsir
وكذلك لا إثم على الذين إذا ما جاؤوك يطلبون أن تعينهم بحملهم إلى الجهاد قلت لهم: لا أجد ما أحملكم عليه من الدوابِّ، فانصرفوا عنك، وقد فاضت أعينهم دَمعًا أسفًا على ما فاتهم من شرف الجهاد وثوابه؛ لأنهم لم يجدوا ما ينفقون، وما يحملهم لو خرجوا للجهاد في سبيل الله.
