Surah Al-Maaida
You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers [to be] the Jews and those who associate others with Allah; and you will find the nearest of them in affection to the believers those who say, "We are Christians." That is because among them are priests and monks and because they are not arrogant.﴿82﴾
Translation
You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers [to be] the Jews and those who associate others with Allah; and you will find the nearest of them in affection to the believers those who say, "We are Christians." That is because among them are priests and monks and because they are not arrogant.
Simplified Tafsir
لتجدنَّ -أيها الرسول- أشدَّ الناس عداوة للذين صدَّقوك وآمنوا بك واتبعوك، اليهودَ؛ لعنادهم، وجحودهم، وغمطهم الحق، والذين أشركوا مع الله غيره، كعبدة الأوثان وغيرهم، ولتجدنَّ أقربهم مودة للمسلمين الذين قالوا: إنا نصارى، ذلك بأن منهم علماء بدينهم متزهدين وعبَّادًا في الصوامع متنسكين، وأنهم متواضعون لا يستكبرون عن قَبول الحق، وهؤلاء هم الذين قبلوا رسالة محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وآمنوا بها.
