Surah Muhammad
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allah - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allah is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.﴿38﴾
Translation
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allah - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
Simplified Tafsir
ها أنتم -أيها المؤمنون- تُدْعَون إلى النفقة في جهاد أعداء الله ونصرة دينه، فمنكم مَن يَبْخَلُ بالنفقة في سبيل الله، ومَن يَبْخَلْ فإنما يبخل عن نفسه، والله تعالى هو الغنيُّ عنكم وأنتم الفقراء إليه، وإن تتولوا عن الإيمان بالله وامتثال أمره يهلكُّم، ويأت بقوم آخرين، ثم لا يكونوا أمثالكم في التولي عن أمر الله، بل يطيعونه ويطيعون رسوله، ويجاهدون في سبيله بأموالهم وأنفسهم.
