Surah Ghafir
That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.﴿22﴾

Simplified Tafsir
ذلك العذاب الذي حلَّ بالمكذبين السابقين، كان بسبب موقفهم من رسل الله الذين جاؤوا بالدلائل القاطعة على صدق دعواهم، فكفروا بهم، وكذَّبوهم، فأخذهم الله بعقابه، إنه سبحانه قوي لا يغلبه أحد، شديد العقاب لمن كفر به وعصاه.
