Ayah 14

Surah Al-Baqara

And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers."﴿14﴾

Translation

And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers."

Simplified Tafsir

هؤلاء المنافقون إذا قابلوا المؤمنين قالوا: صدَّقنا بالإسلام مثلكم، وإذا انصرفوا وذهبوا إلى زعمائهم الكفرة المتمردين على الله أكَّدوا لهم أنهم على ملة الكفر لم يتركوها، وإنما كانوا يَسْتَخِفُّون بالمؤمنين، ويسخرون منهم.
