Ayah 13

Surah Al-Baqara

And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.﴿13﴾

Translation

And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.

Simplified Tafsir

وإذا قيل للمنافقين: آمِنُوا -مثل إيمان الصحابة، وهو الإيمان بالقلب واللسان والجوارح-، جادَلوا وقالوا: أَنُصَدِّق مثل تصديق ضعاف العقل والرأي، فنكون نحن وهم في السَّفَهِ سواء؟ فردَّ الله عليهم بأن السَّفَهَ مقصور عليهم، وهم لا يعلمون أن ما هم فيه هو الضلال والخسران.
